Description
Dubai freehold areas are specific zones where expatriates and foreign investors can purchase property with full freehold ownership rights, complete ownership of the unit and the land (or the unit's share of the land). This was established by Decree No. 3 of 2006, which opened Dubai's property market to foreign ownership.

How to interpret
Confirm freehold designation before committing to any purchase. Although the DLD maintains the official register, some off-plan projects are marketed aggressively before full freehold designation is confirmed. Verify the plot's freehold status through the DLD's own records, not just on the developer's marketing material.
Being in a freehold area does not guarantee full transferability without restriction. Some freehold zones have specific rules on who can buy, how title is held, and how transfers are processed. Research the specific community's regulations, particularly for emerging areas still being established, rather than assuming all freehold zones operate identically.
